Emulate3D • Michigan & the Midwest

Test the controls before the equipment is ready.

Spinula Engineering uses Emulate3D for virtual commissioning of industrial automation. Connect the agreed controls environment to a model of the cell or system and investigate sequences, I/O behavior and recovery scenarios before physical installation.

The engineering decision

Make the model respond to the controls.

An animation can communicate a concept. A controls-testing model must also represent the signals and equipment behavior needed to exercise the agreed PLC logic. We define that level of detail around the tests your team needs to perform.

Sequence & I/O testing

Investigate sensor transitions, actuator responses and coordination between modeled equipment.

Fault & recovery scenarios

Exercise agreed fault, stop and restart conditions to review the corresponding control behavior.

Virtual FAT preparation

Use an agreed test plan to support virtual acceptance activities and track findings before on-site work.

A scoped engineering package

What your team receives.

We agree on the inputs, coverage and outputs before work begins.

Model and interface scope

Defined equipment behavior, included I/O, controls connections and modeling assumptions.

Test scenarios

An agreed set of normal operation and selected exception scenarios, with expected behavior.

Findings and handoff

A record of observations, issues and retest outcomes within scope. Model delivery, software access and training are agreed in the proposal.

How we work

From the question to the findings.

01

Agree on test coverage

Select the equipment, control functions and scenarios that the model must support.

02

Build and connect

Develop the Emulate3D model and establish the agreed controls connection. Confirm version and interface compatibility.

03

Test and review

Execute the scenarios with the project team, document findings and retest agreed changes.

A defined test plan

Turn findings into actions.

Start with the control questions that could delay integration: a missing part signal, equipment waiting for permission, or a restart after an interrupted sequence. Agree on the expected behavior and how each finding will be reviewed with your controls team.

Before you request a quote

Project questions.

Do you perform virtual commissioning with Emulate3D?

Yes. Spinula uses Emulate3D for virtual commissioning. We define the model scope, controls interface and deliverables around each project’s equipment and testing objectives.

Can the study include the HMI?

HMI sequences and operator interactions can be included when the available interface and test environment support them. We confirm the relevant software, connectivity and responsibilities during scoping.

What if the PLC program is still being developed?

Send the current layout, sequence and controls status. We can discuss how model development and controls testing should be phased, and what inputs are needed for each stage.

Does virtual commissioning replace on-site commissioning?

No. It complements physical validation. Actual wiring, mechanical behavior and safety functions still require appropriate verification on the installed equipment.

Will it guarantee a shorter startup or a specific throughput?

No fixed reduction is promised. Value depends on model fidelity, test coverage and how findings are resolved. Throughput and cycle time evaluation require their own defined assumptions and scope.

Supporting Midwest machine builders and automation integrators.

Virtual results depend on the behavior represented in the model. Physical commissioning and machine safety validation remain separate project activities.
